In 2012, Bede founded the St Andrews Brass Festival as an inclusive, non-competitive festival of concerts and events. In 2017 the festival was relaunched as Fringe of Gold and expanded to include wind, brass, and percussion. The final iteration of the festival was held in 2021, by which time musicians such as Ian Bousfield, Marco Blaauw, Marcus Stockhausen, Otto Sauter; composers Peter Graham and Dave Heath; Scottish ensembles such as the Glasgow Improvisors Orchestra and The Wallace Collection, and wind bands, big bands, brass bands and ensembles of all shapes and sizes had performed. For a history of the festival’s programming, see here. With colleagues in St Andrews, he established the St Andrews New Music Week which continues to be an important platform for established and emerging composers and performers from across Scotland and beyond.
